Sebastian Czerwiński, a College Aide for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, didn’t feel far from his native Poland when he moved to Greenpoint in 2001. “I was fortunate to grow up in a neighborhood with a strong Polish immigrant community.” Even #inBrooklyn, he celebrates Wigilia on December 24.
“New Yorkers will always welcome you,” Sebastian said. “I am proud that, as a whole, we value and appreciate each others’ cultures and that the City government supports us immigrants through comprehensive services, especially language support.”
Sebastian began working at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene after studying public health in college. “I wanted a career where I could work towards addressing inequalities in health outcomes, a career where I could be committed to protecting the health of New Yorkers and work towards equity for all.”
Sebastian is acutely aware that New York City is a place where everyone’s welcome. “Every group has their own space where they are able to celebrate their culture—our own shops, places of worship, cultural venues, schools. Yet all of us immigrants come together as New Yorkers”.
