Presenting an eclectic assortment of media from interactive multimedia to the fine arts, the TrentonWorks Community Art Exhibition serves to bridge the gap between individuals of neighboring communities and TCNJ students. Students of the college will showcase their talents alongside members of the Trenton Community A-TEAM, students from Paul Robeson Elementary School and Trenton Central High School, and other local residents. For TCNJ students, this exhibit will be an extended opportunity for Community Engaged Learning as they will see how the arts can provide an avenue for urban revitalization.
The exhibit and TCNJ’s downtown presence are an example of the College’s commitment to Community Engaged Learning, whereby “students extend themselves and learn by service to and engagement with diverse communities on and off campus.” Community Engaged Learning is deeply rooted in the history and mission of the College, as reflected in TCNJ’s mission statement, which claims “Proud of its public service mandate to educate leaders of New Jersey and the nation, the College will be a national exemplar in the education of those who seek to sustain and advance the communities in which they live.”
The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 22nd from 5pm – 8pm at the TrentonWorks Gallery, located at 3 South Broad Street, Trenton NJ.
TrentonWorks is TCNJ’s downtown hub for innovation, creativity, collaboration, and community change. It is primarily a space where the members of the campus and local community can come together to learn, share their experiences, apply their knowledge, and utilize their skills while addressing some important public challenge or interest.
