CELR & Office of Graduates and Advancing Education host College Readiness Program

IMG 9055In June, the Center for Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR), in partnership with the Office of Graduate and Advancing Education, hosted a one-week College Readiness Program for high school students.

The College Readiness Program included three workshop series held over course of the week. Workshops included a session on career and college exploration, college essay writing, and Social Justice Topics. All three workshops were facilitated by TCNJ alumni and current Bonner Community Scholars.

In addition to the workshops, students toured various schools and departments on campus to learn about the degree programs and resources available. Some highlights included touring the nursing simulation lab with the School of Nursing, laser cutting their own keychains with the School of Engineering, and seeing how to make paper with the School of Arts and Communication. Students also participated in multiple service opportunities. During the program, students took time to sort donations at Children’s Futures and Homefront and also helped with garden maintenance in the TCNJ Campus Garden, which produces crops to be donated to the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.

At the end of the program, students presented to their families on their accomplishments of the week and what goals they defined for their future.
