On November 4th, 2018, first-year TCNJ Bonner Scholars traveled to Washington, D.C. for a day of enrichment. After eating lunch at Busboys and Poets, a social justice, activism, and art themed restaurant, the group traveled to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. At the museum, students traveled through the four floors of expansive exhibits depicting the history leading up to, during, and following the Holocaust. Students engaged in a reflection on the implications of an event like this on our modern-day society, and drew parallels from today’s global political climate to that of the world post WWI. Looking forward, the first-year class will be traveling to New Orleans in January to further explore themes of social justice, our nation’s history, while serving to help rebuild homes affected by the various large storms of the past 13 years.
