Meals on Wheels
I joined the Bonner program because I saw it as a valuable opportunity to engage more deeply with the community, especially its residents. I was also eager to grow as an activist and explore different ways to uplift communities and address their needs.
My favorite Bonner memory is the trip to New Orleans. Everything about it, from the van rides to the service work and exploring the city truly made it an unforgettable experience. It allowed me to grow closer to my cohort and get to know them on a more personal level. Additionally, the service we provided, helping to repair an elderly woman's flooring after it was damaged by a hurricane, made a meaningful difference in her life, and I was honored to have been part of that.
My advice to prospective Bonner students is to take the time to truly understand what a community’s needs are and identify how you can best serve them. Often, we have our own ideas of what a community might need, but to create significant change, it's important to first listen and learn where support is needed most.
