Rescue Mission - The Thrift Project
Covid left me feeling disconnected and inspired me to do something about it. After COVID, when my senior year of high school started, I became heavily involved in clubs such as Habitat for Humanity club and the Interact club, which centered around acts of community service. I found these clubs so fulfilling and something that I truly needed. When I received an email about the Bonner program my senior year after committing to TCNJ, I was immediately intrigued in continuing community service through college so I applied.
My favorite Bonner memory was traveling to New Orleans with my freshman-year cohort. Although it was a long journey, I was able to serve a completely new community with some of my closest friends. Learning the culture of New Orleans and hearing the experiences of individuals who Hurricane Katrina is still impacting was eye-opening and an experience I will never forget. I enjoyed it so much that I volunteered to lead the following freshman year cohort as a trip leader in hopes of fostering some of those fond memories with a new group of students.
Prioritize yourself! Service is important, but you cannot give 100% of yourself to your work if there is not 100% of you to give.
